On February 6, our newspaper reported that a Chery Ant pure electric vehicle caught fire and spontaneously ignited during charging, which attracted many readers' attention. In recent years, the spontaneous combustion of new energy vehicles has been reported frequently. What are the reasons? How to prevent? The reporter interviewed relevant experts in this regard.
College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Hainan University clean energy Zhen Haisheng, an expert from the scientific research team of the Center, said that according to his understanding, the main reason for the spontaneous combustion of new energy vehicles, especially pure electric vehicles, was the battery fire, and some new energy vehicles were also self ignited because the owners stored flammable materials such as lighters in the vehicle, and the circuit was short circuited.
Zhen Haisheng introduced that there are many kinds of lithium batteries for new energy vehicles. The fire risks of different types of batteries are different, and the risk of ternary lithium batteries is relatively high. "The battery production line, incoming materials, maintenance and charging and changing electricity in the use process will affect the battery life." Zhen Haisheng said that even though the vehicle did not collide or wade in the use process, some owners often use fast charging piles to charge, which will reduce the life of the vehicle's lithium battery. In addition, frequent climbing and fast charging with large current will cause the battery to overheat, and the battery will fail when the temperature is too high, leaving irreversible damage to the battery. Over time, there will be greater potential safety hazards, which may lead to battery fire and spontaneous combustion during the charging or parking process of the vehicle.
Zhen Haisheng suggested that new energy vehicle owners should try their best to choose a big brand charging station when charging, and use the original charger. They should also regularly test the vehicle battery at ordinary times, and do a good job of maintenance, so as to effectively prevent the occurrence of spontaneous combustion of new energy vehicles.
